【双语灵修】越发害怕 More Afraid

“彼拉多听见这话，越发害怕…。” - 约 19:8

彼拉多处于一个没有胜算的局面。一方面，他的门外有一群愤怒的暴民要求处决一个无辜的人。另一方面，这个人似乎站在执政政府的对立面，而彼拉多不能让这个消息传回罗马。不过，这并不能让彼拉多为他的决定脱罪。

无论彼拉多的恐惧是来自不守规矩的暴民、罗马当局，还是杀死一个无辜者的后果，我们都无法确定。最后我们所知道的是，彼拉多感到惧怕，并出于惧怕而采取了行动。

恐惧会使我们所有人都做出错误的决定。虽然我们因恐惧而做出的决定不会有彼拉多的决定那样的后果，但它们仍然是严重的。有时，它们甚至会对我们、我们的家庭成员和我们的社区产生可怕的后果。

我们不必以这种方式做出决定。恐惧不需要也不应该成为我们做出任何决定背后的驱动力。

在基督里，我们已经从各种事物中获得了自由，包括恐惧。作为神的自由之子，我们不再生活在恐惧之中。

祷告

圣洁的神，你已经使我们得着自由。请帮助我们过上彰显自由而不是恐惧的生活，并做出决定。奉耶稣的名，阿们。

约翰福音 19:1-16

1当下彼拉多将耶稣鞭打了。
2兵丁用荆棘编做冠冕，戴在他头上，给他穿上紫袍，
3又挨近他，说：“恭喜，犹太人的王啊！”他们就用手掌打他。
4彼拉多又出来对众人说：“我带他出来见你们，叫你们知道我查不出他有什么罪来。”
5耶稣出来，戴着荆棘冠冕，穿着紫袍。彼拉多对他们说：“你们看，这个人！”
6祭司长和差役看见他，就喊着说：“钉他十字架！钉他十字架！”彼拉多说：“你们自己把他钉十字架吧，我查不出他有什么罪来。”
7犹太人回答说：“我们有律法，按那律法，他是该死的！因他以自己为神的儿子。”
8彼拉多听见这话，越发害怕，
9又进衙门，对耶稣说：“你是哪里来的？”耶稣却不回答。
10彼拉多说：“你不对我说话吗？你岂不知我有权柄释放你，也有权柄把你钉十字架吗？”
11耶稣回答说：“若不是从上头赐给你的，你就毫无权柄办我。所以，把我交给你的那人罪更重了。”
12从此彼拉多想要释放耶稣，无奈犹太人喊着说：“你若释放这个人，就不是恺撒的忠臣。凡以自己为王的，就是背叛恺撒了。”
13彼拉多听见这话，就带耶稣出来，到了一个地方，名叫铺华石处，希伯来话叫厄巴大，就在那里坐堂。
14那日是预备逾越节的日子，约有午正。彼拉多对犹太人说：“看哪，这是你们的王！”
15他们喊着说：“除掉他！除掉他！钉他在十字架上！”彼拉多说：“我可以把你们的王钉十字架吗？”祭司长回答说：“除了恺撒，我们没有王！”
16于是，彼拉多将耶稣交给他们去钉十字架。

More Afraid

"When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid. . . ." - John 19:8

Pilate was in a no-win situation. On the one hand, he had an angry mob outside his door demanding the execution of an innocent man. On the other hand, this man seemed to stand in opposition to the ruling government, and Pilate couldn’t have that news get back to Rome. This does not let Pilate off the hook for his decision, though.

Whether Pilate’s fear stemmed from the unruly mob, the Roman authorities, or the consequences of killing an innocent man, we can’t be sure. In the end all we know is that Pilate was afraid and acted out of fear.

Fear can cause all of us to make bad decisions. And while the decisions we make out of fear don’t have the same consequences that Pilate’s decision did, they are still serious. At times they can even have dire consequences for us, for our family members, and for our community.

We don’t have to make decisions that way. Fear doesn’t need to be and should not be the driving force behind any decisions we make.

In Christ we have been set free from all sorts of things, including fear. As free children of God, we don’t live in fear anymore.

Prayer

Holy God, you have set us free. Help us to live lives and make decisions that reflect freedom and not fear. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
