申命记 31:9-13

摩西将这律法写出来，交给抬耶和华约柜的祭司利未子孙和以色列的众长老。摩西吩咐他们说：「每逢七年的末一年，就在豁免年的定期住棚节的时候，以色列众人来到耶和华你神所选择的地方朝见他，那时你要在以色列众人面前将这律法念给他们听。要招聚他们男、女、孩子，并城里寄居的，使他们听，使他们学习，好敬畏耶和华你们的神，谨守遵行这律法的一切话，也使他们未曾晓得这律法的儿女得以

听见，学习敬畏耶和华你们的神，在你们过约旦河要得为业之地，存活的日子，常常这样行。」

多年前，在一次前往巴哈马的拿骚之宣教旅程中，我看见一个人拿着一本圣经在市集中心的一个讲台上讲话。有几个人也站在那里，还有一些折椅摆放在附近。

我走近一点看看他们在做甚么，原来他们是在举行一场公开宣读圣经的马拉松，是一个二十四小时不停的项目。那天我曾经回到那处两次，而每次我都被邀请上去宣读。对我来说，这是一次很难忘的宣读神话语的经历。

使徒保罗敦促提摩太要投入去「公开宣读圣经」，以劝勉和教导为念（提摩太前书4:13）。透过这常被忽视的属灵操练，我可以听到不同的声音，单是诵读圣经而不加评论，发觉我对神的话语有新的领受。我们可以和群体中的其他人一起读和听。

对任何年纪的人来说，一起聆听、一起学习圣经，是一个很好的属灵操练。每天的生活往往是很忙碌和无闲睱的，我们都需要聆听，并且与神的话语互动。神的话语有很多关于神，以及祂对我们的爱，和我们如何把神的爱照亮这个黑暗的世界的教导。你可以怎样参与宣读圣经，去与人分享神的话语呢？

“Assemble the people—men, women and children, and the foreigners residing in your towns—so they can listen and learn to fear the Lord your God and follow carefully all the words of this law.”                                                                                 —Deuteronomy 31:12

Years ago, on a mission trip to Nassau in the Bahamas, I saw a man holding a Bible and speaking at a podium in a downtown marketplace. Several other people stood there too, and folding chairs were set out.

I walked over to see what they were doing. They were hosting a marathon of the public reading of Scripture, a 24-hour nonstop event. During that day I returned twice and was invited to read each time. For me, it was an incredible experience of reading God’s Word.

The apostle Paul urged Timothy to devote himself to “the public reading of Scripture” along with preaching and teaching (1 Timothy 4:13). I found that this often-overlooked spiritual exercise allowed me to hear God’s Word afresh, with various voices reading and without commentary. We were able to read and listen with others in the community.

Hearing and learning the Bible together is a good spiritual practice for people of all ages. Life can be busy and full. We all need to hear and engage with God’s Word, which has so much to teach about God and his love for us, and how we can shine the light of God’s love into the darkness of this world.
